Vidya Balan is now married to Sidharth Roy Kapur

I remember watching Vidya Balan on Television, way back in 1996. It was a TV Serial called ‘Hum Paanch’ on Zee TV. The serial was the first entrepreneurial venture of Television Queen Ekta Kapoor. The serial was about 5 sisters who had their own way of living, full of fun and enthusiasm. Vidya Balan played the role of ‘Radhika’, the second sister out of 5. As a regular viewer of the show, ‘Radhika’ was my personal favourite as she wore spectacles just like and was also termed as the ‘Intelligent one’ by hers sisters.

Several years Later, I was happy again to see the same ‘Radhika’ of ‘Hum Paanch’ as a young lady and a model of many TV commercials. Very soon, she was seen in a Music album, ‘Euphoria’ with the lead singer Palash Sen. The video was directed by film-maker Pradeep Sarkar and he was so impressed by Vidya that he took her as a heroine for his film ‘Parineeta’ opposite Saif Ali Khan. The film was based on a Bengali novel written by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and he got an opportunity to showcase her acting skills in a power packed role of a girl called ‘Lalita’. She received The Filmfare Award for the Best Debut Female for this film. This film saw the arrival of an actress in Bollywood.

After ‘Parineeta’, there was no looking back for this talented actress. She acted in films like ‘Lage Raho MunnaBhai’ opposite Sanjay Dutt, ‘Heyy Babyy’ opposite Akshay Kumar, ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’, and ’Kismat Konnection’ opposite Shahid Kapur. The films for which she was most appreciated were ‘Paa’, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’. She was honoured with a National Award for Best Actress for her brave acting in ‘The Dirty Picture’.

On 14th December, 2012 this talented actress became Mrs. Sidharth Roy Kapur. Vidya Balan married the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures in Mumbai. The wedding took place in the presence of the groom’s and bride’s parents, relatives and close friends. It was a very private affair away from the glare of media.

I hope, she continues acting and we get to see her in more challenging and performance oriented roles. She is one of those few actresses who have changed the male dominated film Industry. She is considered to be the Hero of films like ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani. We wish her a very happy married life and May she acts in more female centric films which will bring a change in the status of Women in the society and lead to the empowerment of Women in India.
